A palm frond that drops onto a Redlands sidewalk has nowhere good to go. The city won’t take it as green waste, because palm fronds are too tough and fibrous to compost with grass and leaves, so most of them get hauled to a landfill. But that same stubborn fiber is exactly what makes good, sturdy paper. Turning fronds into paper takes something the waste system treats as a dead end and makes it into something worth keeping.
