Gender Affirming Voice Workshop

Thursday, Jul 9
6:30pm – 8:00pm
Hosted by

This Gender-Affirming Voice Workshop is designed as a welcoming introduction for anyone curious about exploring their voice. Together, we’ll break down how the voice works in simple, accessible terms -looking at the basics of voice anatomy and physiology, and how elements like pitch, resonance, and articulation come together to create each person’s unique sound. Participants will also learn what gender-affirming voice care can look like, how to access services, and what to consider when choosing a practitioner who aligns with their needs and values. Whether you’re just beginning to explore your voice or wondering what next steps might look like, this workshop offers a supportive space to learn, ask questions, and get started. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your voice and practical ideas for beginning your journey toward a voice that feels more authentic to you. This is a virtual offering, we will send the meeting link prior to the event. $15 suggested donation, but pay what you can! (here's a stuffy disclaimer: participation does not constitute speech-language pathology services, diagnosis, or individualized treatment. Donations go to WCP and are voluntary.) Your practitioner: Kyla Dirks, MS, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist and educator who is passionate about supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals through gender-affirming voice care. She is committed to anti-racist, neurodiversity-affirming, and inclusive practices, creating welcoming spaces where people can safely explore and express voices that feel true to who they are. She views voice as a deeply personal part of identity and works collaboratively with clients to honor their goals, experiences, and comfort. Kyla brings clinical experience from several institutions on the west coast, including OHSU and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, with a background in medical speech-language pathology. She is also a professor at Marymount University, where she mentors future clinicians in providing compassionate, equitable, and affirming care. At the heart of her work is a deep belief that everyone deserves access to supportive spaces where their voice is valued and affirmed.
