What can audio be when it’s not a podcast or a piece of radio?
For this Audio Spice community skillshare, we’re bringing together three artists working across different forms of sound, storytelling, performance, and live experience and will look at the ways audio can move beyond traditional formats.
Each guest will take us behind the scenes of a project or creative practice, sharing how they work, what influences them or what they’ve learned from experimenting with form.
★ Julie Piñero
Julie is an award-winning writer, producer, and performer. She runs the monthly live storytelling show Afters and currently hosts the iHeart podcast Solita, about women who travel alone.
★ Aaron Edwards
Aaron is an interdisciplinary director, story editor, and writer working across text, stage, and narrative audio. His work has appeared at BAM, Lincoln Center, UnionDocs, RESONATE, the Brooklyn Public Library, and the Tribeca Festival.
★ Sharon Mashihi
Sharon is the creator of Appearances, a 10-part work of autofiction in which she performs most of the characters. Alongside her work in radio and podcasting, she creates live performances and recently published the audiobook "30 Days to Rediscover Your Creativity."
The evening will be informal and conversational: more living-room Sonic Salon than traditional panel. Let’s come together, share ideas and maybe leave with a new way of thinking about our own work.
We'll gather in Brooklyn at one of our favourite studios, Good Studio.
