NYC in LA presents Reading Speakeasy - a social reading party where guests read silently for an hour and chat with strangers about the books they brought.
π Our first Reading Speakeasy was a big hit. We had so much fun, and connected so many great readers, we're doing it again!
π We invite you to bring any book you want. We'll facilitate silent reading periods, 1-on-1 breakouts, and group discussions to share our favorite books with each other.
π We'll be gathering at Late Sunday Afternoon, a gem of an event space in Venice. It's part clothing store, part book store, part museum for the curious - and the perfect place to crack open a favorite book with some new friends.

π Why Reading Speakeasy? π
We wanted to combine the best of a book club and a cocktail party. People don't read books like they used to. The causes are obvious: shorter attention spans, social media, the lure of the iPhone. Outside of school and religious ceremonies, there are hardly any environments where we get to read in unison.
That's why we created Reading Speakeasy. We bring readers together in beautiful venues to share our love of literature, language and learning.
π What to expect π
-Small bites and drinks (both alcoholic and NA)
-Comfy chairs, mood music, candle-lit vibes
-A semi-structured program - individual reading followed by 1-on-1 discussions
-Freedom - choose your own book, read at your own pace
-Fun - who are you going to meet? What are they going to read?

About NYC in LA: We're a group of former New Yorkers who now live in Los Angeles. From the fast-paced avenues of New York to the starlit boulevards of LA, we bring together the best of both worlds, creating a home for the spirit of NYC in the heart of LA.
