A doula is a non-medical professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support to pregnant people before, during, and after childbirth. Join Lesley Loor, an alumna of the Beta Chapter of Columbia University (Spring 2009), for an introductory session on doula work and the powerful role doulas play in supporting birth. We’ll explore themes surrounding advocacy, education, and culturally responsive care as it pertains to strengthening maternal health and birth outcomes in our communities. This workshop is open to all interested in doula support regardless of gender expression or identity. Lesley was born and raised in the Bronx born, She grew up in a Latino household where she learned the value of hard work, community, and showing up for others. She has spent over a decade working in education access, helping to empower and open doors for students and families who deserve impactful opportunities. Lesley is deeply passionate about equity and social justice, and brings that commitment into everything she does — including her work as a community doula, supporting families through some of life’s most powerful and vulnerable moments with care and intention. At the end of the day, Lesley is a loving wife, proud auntie, and a grateful human being who believes in leading with heart and staying rooted in where she comes from.
