thesis abstract: This research will use archival analysis and interviews to examine the ways that Asian-American migration to the American Midwest after the Cold War has been influenced by the Christian church. Through missions and church-sponsored immigration, Asian communities were inspired, persuaded, and coerced into immigrating particularly to the Midwest. I will analyze how Asian-American immigrants have shaped the Christian religion and their communities into places of belonging. How has Christianity been localized to fit the needs of these Asian-diasporic peoples? Through this project, I hope to expand on Asian-American studies through the lens of religiosity, an understudied aspect of the field.
