Join Cleo-Mar A. Pagán for an outdoor reading and community conversation centered on Echoes of Harlem, a story from their horror collection Our Bodies, Their Altars. This event is rooted in personal connection to Harlem, and in a desire to give back to the place that helped shape their voice and their story.
We’ll gather in Morningside Park near the pond to read the story aloud, reflect on its themes, and open space for honest conversation about gentrification, memory, cultural erasure, and survival. This is a moment to be present in Harlem as people with a real relationship to the land, the people, and the history here.
This event will include:
– A live reading of Echoes of Harlem
– Group discussion on reclaiming space and honoring local history
– Reflections on growing up in Harlem and writing from that experience
– Copies of Our Bodies, Their Altars available for purchase
All are welcome. Bring something to sit on, bring water, and come prepared to listen, speak, and share space with intention and respect.
