Samira Asma-Sadeque (she/her) is a New York-based Bangladeshi poet & journalist who writes about immigration, moms, her own mom, mental health, flowers and (much to her frustration) love. Her poetry journey began when she opened a Tumblr account while going through a breakup. Her poetry appears in HBO's Take Out with Lisa Ling, Button Poetry, No Dear Magazine and other platforms.
“Meaningful Mistakes”
is a workshop that looks at how changing a letter in a word can entirely change the meaning of a word (and therefore the sentence, and therefore the story). It comes from my own struggle with often misreading or mis-hearing words which I've realized can bear profound meanings when given the right chance (e.g. reading "there were stars in the sky that night" as "there were scars in the sky that night"). For this, we will use anything from books, magazines, your breakup texts, scam email, voicenotes -- feel free to bring any of these along (but you'll have plenty options at the location, so no worries).
Please bring notebook + pen/ whatever is your preferable mode of writing.

A collective run by best friends of nearly two decades, Tina Kachoo and Solange Claws -- serves as a community space for poetry, ciphers improvisation, and live music throughout Brooklyn. The duo have created a space where they invite guests to be unapologetically human.
