Avid Rest Portal is a monthly sanctuary for rest, reflection, and collective care.
This gathering follows the same open, low-pressure format as our MLK Day Rest-In. We’ll begin with a brief grounding practice, then the space will open for quiet, self-directed rest. Participants are invited to move freely—lying down, listening, writing, crafting, breathing, or simply being still.
For this evening, we’ll feature two gentle offerings within the sanctuary:
🎧 Album Listening Experience with Elaine Ryan- 7pm
Elaine Ryan is a singer and songwriter whose work centers emotional honesty and presence. She will share a listening segment from her newly released album, Ever-Patient Heart, as an offering for rest—no performance, simply listening. Take 30 minutes to listen deeply to music with themes of healing, relief, emotional release and belonging. You're invited to lay down and close your eyes, sketch or journal as you listen, or quietly move to the music–whatever feels most restorative. Feel free to ask Elaine questions about the music after the listening session. She’ll be available to chat in the kitchen area.
🧶 Crochet Craft Circle with Sadeem Salem
Sadeem Salem is an ICU nurse, yoga instructor, and maker who brings care, movement awareness, and creativity into everything he does. He will host a quiet crochet circle as an invitation into grounding through repetition and gentle making. Beginners are welcome; participation is optional.
As always:
Everything is optional
You’re welcome to arrive late or leave early
There is no expectation to share or engage in any particular way
This is not a class or workshop.
It’s an invitation to rest.
Comfortable clothing encouraged. Feel free to bring a journal, book, blanket, pillow, or anything that supports your rest.
