This April, Charlotte-based NC hip-hop artist and engineer Nigel Malone released the free documentary short "Carolina Noise," aimed at answering a question he'd never heard satisfyingly answered or even explored: does North Carolina hip-hop have a sound? From early pioneers like Jay-Z collaborator Ski Beatz to contemporary acts like Dreamville's Lute, Malone goes directly to the source, finding an array of perspectives as varied as the music of NC itself.
Super Empty — along with extra support from the Durham-based, quarterly doc meetup group Look Different — is proud to bring this film, and a Q&A with Malone, to Yours for its first screening event in the Triangle since its release. Come out, connect with other artists and NC hip-hop fans, and join in the unending, communal endeavor of better understanding where we live, and who we are.
