Cocktail. Extravagant. Surreal.
www.thesurrealistball.com We cordially invite you to escape reality at The Surrealist Ball - an exquisite evening of art, decadence, and the macabre - held at The Weylin, the historic Williamsburgh Savings Bank, at the base of the Williamsburg bridge. Inspired by the legendary 1972 Dîner des Têtes Surréalistes given by the Baron and Baroness de Rothschild, The Surrealist Ball is an extravagant black-tie gala where guests step into a living dream woven from threads of surrealism, literature, and high art. Renowned art critic Richard Vine (Art in America) will judge The Surrealest of them All to crown the honorary Baron and Baroness of The Surrealist Ball. Open bar, delectable morsels, and yes, champagne! The lush program features: Carnaval de las Indias, by acclaimed Catalan composer Marc Migó, a distorted mythical menagerie mirror of Saint-Saëns' famed Carnival of the Animals. Orchestra and dual piano duets featuring Soundbox Camerata, conducted by Kyle Ritenauer, featuring Steinway artist Taka Kigawa, narrated by Elizabeth Cho. GALLIM Dance will be performing ambient ambulatory dance tableaus throughout the evening. Screening of rarely seen surrealist films by Buñuel, Dali, Man Ray, Lynch, Tarsem. World premiere of fairytale and art song The Catherd and the Rose Gardener, composed by Marc Migó, Libretto and performance by Elizabeth Cho. Séance by McKenna Parsons Molly Balloon wearing Balloonciaga (TM) DJ Fanatic sets throughout the evening. Tarot card readings, ouija boards, exquisite corpse drawing demonstrations, and more gothic delights. Sponsored by Wandering Barman and GHIA. Escape Reality. Plunge into the Surreal. www.thesurrealistball.com
