A warm invitation to join our online fortnightly Collaborative Reading Group that will engage with the book Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype by Carissa Pinkola Estés. This work is a profound exploration of the powerful potential of storytelling, using multicultural folklore, myths and fairy tales to inspire readers to reconnect with their creative, intuitive, and wild selves.
Through reading and discussing a chapter together every other week, we will undertake age-old practices of communal storytelling while exploring refreshing methods of collaborative group learning (more in the next section), as a way of exploring oneself, cultivating wisdom, building solidarities and engaging imagination.
We actively welcome participants from diverse backgrounds and experiences to foster meaningful and enriching discussions. We believe that the themes in this book, rooted in the collective unconscious, offer valuable insight for any person with an interest in exploring the human psyche.
-What is a Collaborative Reading Group?
The idea of a Collaborative Reading Group is that the important role of the facilitator is shared and rotated amongst the members. At the beginning, this group will be facilitated by the two initiators (more in the next section). It is our intention to work towards a group that is as collaborative and member-run as possible.
We see joint facilitation as a core aspect of the group, where members can learn from one another and explore new ways of group organisation. We welcome anyone interested in collaborative group work, whether you are new or experienced in facilitation, to join us.
-Who are we?
We are Jingwei and Swani: Jingwei has 12-year experience in the tech industry in the Bay Area; Swani is a UK-based psychotherapist. In the past few years, we have been involved in building the community of epg.
epg (empathy practice group) is a community that provides a safe space for members to practice giving and receiving empathetically, with self-exploration as a bigger theme in the background.
-Practicalities
Starting in April 2025, we will meet together on Zoom every other Sunday from 12.30 – 13.30 PST (20.30 – 21.30 GMT), over several months. Numbers will be limited to enable our shared discussion. To join this reading group, RSVP on the partiful event.
Please familiarise yourself with the proposed Reading Group Ground Rules (https://shorturl.at/iRWiq) before joining this group as these will inform how our time together is held and interacted with.
