PROJECT X presents: Sustaining Caribbean Restaurants
A salon-style conversation with local restaurant owners and about how we can make sure Caribbean restaurants can thrive long-term in BK.
Project X presents its first salon conversation: Sustaining Caribbean Restaurants in Brooklyn.
Brooklyn is home to a beautiful array of Caribbean restaurants. These are more than just sites of commerce or transactional exchange – they are important pillars of the community, integral to the cultural fabric.
For so many of us, they are consistent parts of our daily lives. We know and love the food, and have developed relationships with the people behind the counters. But the stories behind these businesses, and the challenges they face are less visible. Amidst gentrification, rising commercial rents, and inflation along the supply chain, many of these restaurants are left struggling.
What would it take for Caribbean restaurants to be able to thrive in Brooklyn over the long term? What unique challenges do they currently face? Can they be addressed through policy?
Join us for a conversation with local restaurant owners, activists, and organizers as we explore these questions and more.
Food will be provided by Ujamaa, Twin Grills, and Ma Lillit.
