Emotional Surfing in Relationship

Emotional Surfing in Relationship: Micro-meditation Practices for Relational Growth THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT through the Alembic, $55-95. Also NOTAFLOF, reach out to the Alembic (or Brian) if you can't afford the ticket. Our most triggering moments often happen in relationship, and those same moments are also our greatest opportunity for growth. Emotional Surfing is a meditative approach to working with emotions that allows you to recognize and release reactive habits even in the midst of conflict. The result is both better relationships and a deepening into a fundamental okayness that isn't threatened by the inevitable ups and downs of relational life. We'll learn two powerful techniques. First, a micro-meditation you can use in real time: when you're triggered, withdrawing, ruminating over a fight, or about to say something you'll regret. Second, a pair practice where you get peer support in bringing the qualities of awareness (fundamental okayness, clarity, compassion) into emotionally charged relational situations. We'll also spend time understanding our own patterns: the subtle ways we coerce, contort ourselves, or shut down in relationship. The goal isn't to become a better person for your partner's sake. It's to use your own triggers as fuel to discover your own freedom. All levels welcome, whether you're completely new to meditation and Emotional Surfing, or have years of practice and want support bringing your on-the-cushion equanimity into the places it weakens under relational distress. Come on your own or bring a partner. Whether you’re partnered or single, if you’ve ever been triggered by another human being, this practice is for you. There will be a lunch break 1-2:30. Bring lunch, or plan to get something nearby. Agenda: 10am-1pm Morning session 1pm-2:30pm Lunch (Bring your own or many options nearby) 2:30pm-5pm Afternoon session Find more of Brian's offerings (including awareness-based relationship coaching) at www.briantbasham.com, or learn more about emotional surfing at emotionalsurfing.com
