Putting on something a little different this time.
First Cut is a local event series built around intimacy, focus, and connection between producers, their music, and the room. The idea is simple: create a space where the set itself is the experience — a room where people come to be fully present with what the artist is sharing. The closeness matters. It gives artists a chance to feel how their music lands in real time, and gives listeners a more direct connection to the person behind the sound.
This series is meant for producers who are actively making music, developing their sound, experimenting, and wanting to bring people closer to that process. Sets do not need to be made up entirely of original music. Most artists will play a mix of their own work and other tracks that influence them, complement their sound, or help tell the full story of the set. What matters is that the set reflects a real relationship to the music and opens a window into where the artist is creatively right now.
A big part of First Cut is that it is not only artist-to-crowd, but also producer-to-producer. Some of the most meaningful moments come from sharing music with peers who understand the craft and can recognize what is happening in the details. The goal is to create a room where that kind of connection can happen naturally, while still feeling warm, open, and welcoming to everyone there.
The format is meant to support that ethos. We are not overly attached to rigid set lengths or highly programmed timing. The idea is for each artist to play the music they need to play to deliver the set they came to share. The night should feel guided by the music, the people in the room, and the desire to share something with each other.
First Cut is for artists who want to bring their craft to the community: original work, new ideas, evolving material, and sets that reflect their unique sound. The hope is to create a night that feels close, intentional, and memorable for both the people playing and the people listening.
First Cut Vol. 1 will feature two artists - Aaron Kennard & Ben Roy.
If you want to hear where the music comes from before it’s finished, connect with the artists and be part of the next wave of music being created, this is that.
