In this highly interactive writing workshop, we explore the creative writing modes of poetry and personal narrative. We will follow our curiosity to generate prompts for each other: What would you be curious to know about the others sitting around the table? No holds barred. "What was your first kiss?" "What was one occasion where you've been angry recently?" "What was a conversation you had recently with a stranger?"... are just some of the questions that have come up in the workshop. Twelve participants generate twelve prompts, and then each participant is free to choose any one of the prompts to respond to, for a timed writing period of 11 minutes. After this, we go around the circle and those who want to are free to share their texts (or not to share, no pressure!). As we hear the texts, our curiosity is further stimulated, giving rise to new prompts, and so the cycle of prompting, writing and sharing continues. The prompts are written down on small cards and affixed to a whiteboard with magnets. (I have a collection of over 100 colorful magnets!) Over the course of the workshop, the whiteboard becomes an evolving mind-map of our collective exploration. I've hosted this writing workshop many times in Paris and New York, and have found it to be a wonderful way to connect with others, and with our own imagination and inner world. Something about the format cuts instantly through any creative blocks! I hope you will come sit around the table with us, and join in our collective story sharing!
