Stand With Polyamorous, ENM & All Diverse Families in Olympia 🏛️💜 We need your help on February 24th❗ Seattle Coalition for Family & Relationship Equity (SCFRE), in partnership with OPEN, is calling on our community to show up in support of expanding Olympia’s non-discrimination laws to protect diverse family and relationship structures — including polyamorous and non-monogamous families. 📅 On February 24th, the bill is scheduled to go before Olympia City Council for a final vote and community presence is critical. ➕ How You Can Help ➕ 🟢 Attend in-person (or virtually) at Olympia City Hall 🟢 Offer public comment 🟢 Or simply be present — visibility alone makes a difference 💜 Public comment doesn’t need to be long, formal, or perfectly polished, comments are limited to 2 minutes, and microphones will mute automatically after that. What matters most are personal stories, shared values, and lived experience—your own or someone you care about. And if speaking isn’t your thing, simply showing up still sends a strong message that this issue impacts real people in our community. ➡️What This Is About (and Who It’s For) This ordinance would expand Olympia’s non-discrimination protections to recognize and protect diverse family and relationship structures, including (but not limited to): 🟡 Polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous people. 🟡 Unmarried partners and chosen family networks 🟡 LGBTQIA2S+ families and households 🟡 Blended families, multi-parent families, and co-parenting arrangements 🟡 Single parents and people raising children outside of traditional marriage 🟡 People whose caregiving, financial, or emotional support systems don’t fit narrow legal definitions of “family” This is not just for people who are polyamorous or non-monogamous. It is for anyone whose family, caregiving, or relationship structure falls outside of marriage-centered norms— and for anyone who believes people should not face discrimination because of who they love or how they build family. We’re confident that with your support, we can get this passed! After the City Hall meeting, we’ll gather to celebrate together at the Brotherhood Lounge 🎉 Why Now ❓ This ordinance builds directly on Olympia’s January 2025 decision to declare itself a sanctuary city for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, affirming the City’s commitment to dignity, safety, and inclusion. That resolution explicitly recognized people’s right “to define what gender and family means to them; including but not limited to structuring a family unit that works best for them.” This referral is about turning those values into enforceable protections by updating the municipal code so it reflects modern families and protects people from discrimination in housing, employment, and access to services. If adopted, Olympia would become just the fifth city in the United States to pass this kind of ordinance, joining Somerville, Cambridge, Berkeley, and Oakland. Why Your Presence Matters Passing this ordinance: 🟢 Protects people from discrimination based on family or relationship structure 🟢 Strengthens Olympia’s public safety and equity commitments 🟢 Sends a clear message that polyamorous families, non-monogamous people, LGBTQIA2S+ households, and all diverse families belong in Olympia and will be protected there Whether you’re directly impacted, love someone who is, or simply believe in fairness and dignity — we need you with us on February 24th.
