Calling lovers of not-so-safe-for-work books! Is romantasy your guilty pleasure? Are you secretly smutty? Do you also miss literature class and thought: hey, there should be an adult version of this? On Sep 2nd, we are excited to be joined by Thai author Pim Wangtechawat who will guide us on a close reading of a short but particularly thirsty excerpt from “Call Me by Your Name” by Andre Aciman, a story about an intense queer romance between a young boy and a visiting scholar in the heat summer of the Italian Riviera. We have selected a short passage in English to discuss, no need to read the book before the event and everyone is welcome! Think of this as an adult bookclub, where we will explore the text together, no right or wrong answers but hopefully very fun times ahead. We hope that you’ll walk away with a new perspective on close reading that you can bring the sensual reads you have at home. We’ll explore the theme of THIRST through the language of our bodies and senses, the setting, shame and freedom, and - of course - figs (the fruit).
