Moderator and The Architect both come from worlds deeply rooted in underground hip hop, beat tapes, sampling culture, and independent music. They’re artists who have spent years shaping their sound through records, live performance, experimentation, and community.
Moderator - based in Athens, Greece, has carved out a sound built from trip hop, dusty breakbeats, soul samples, and cinematic atmosphere — music made for crate diggers, producers, and late-night listeners alike. There’s a patience and grit to his production that feels deeply connected to underground beat culture while still sounding completely his own.
Over the years, he’s built a worldwide following through immersive live sets that pull people in rather than compete for attention. From The World Within, to the darker edges of Sinner’s Syndrome and now Silent Cinema — recently recognized by Bandcamp as one of the best hip hop album releases of April 2026 — Moderator continues evolving his sound while staying connected to the feeling that made people fall in love with it in the first place.
The Architect - based in Los Angeles, CA, has spent decades shaping the sound and spirit of independent hip hop from behind the boards. As one half of Homeliss Derilex and part of the early foundation of Stones Throw Records, he helped define an era of underground West Coast hip hop rooted in experimentation, deep musical knowledge and raw sampling culture.
Following Souls of Mischief’s, 93 ’til Infinity anniversary tour, he returned to finish The Greatest Story Never Told — his newly released album on Stones Throw Records — built from handpicked recordings and music pulled directly from more than 30 years of the Stones Throw archive alongside Peanut Butter Wolf.
For the San Diego stop, we wanted the night to feel intimate and community-rooted — something closer to a listening room than a traditional venue.
We’re also excited to welcome special guest vinyl DJ Nostalgia — local artist and co-creator of Velvet Den, Sneaky Fox Records’ all-lady musician and DJ series. Opening the night on vinyl, she’ll be setting the tone with a soulful blend of funk, boogie, rare grooves, and deep cuts to ease everyone into the evening.
If you’re drawn to instrumental hip hop, trip hop, downtempo, beat tapes, analog textures and nights centered around deep listening and good people, we’d love to have you with us.
