Welcome to the 7th monthly Open Mic with A Room of One's Own at The Frugal Frigate bookstore ❤️
Stories connect us. They serve as medicine and wisdom and help us navigate through times of despair and isolation. And in a climate that would rather we stay divided and fuel that despair for the benefit of those in power, we need stories more than ever to remind us of what really matters.
🗓️ MAY’S THEME
May’s theme is: Show & Tell! That’s right. Remember when you were in elementary school and you had Show & Tell Day? We’re doing that for our May open mic theme. Bring an object and tell us a 5 minute story about it. Write a poem or song about it. (Have you read Ode to Common Things by Pablo Neruda? It’s a personal favorite of Erin’s.)
Tell us a story about your collection of seashells, your childhood stuffie, your ex’s sweater, your favorite wooden spoon maybe?
-
Participants will have up to 5 minutes to share a story and are welcome to read a prepared piece or just speak unscripted - the time limit remains the same regardless of format. Readers are limited to about 11 slots, so sign up as soon as you can to secure a spot (which you can do while RSVPing for this event).
This event is for those 18 and up. We ask that no photos or videos be taken of anyone sharing a story without their permission and to practice deep listening and presence while attending this event.
