We’re back with another challenging Hudson Valley hike — and this one is going to be a good one.
We’ll be taking on the Mount Beacon via Casino, Wilkinson Memorial & Fishkill Ridge Loop, a beautiful but HARD 6.2-mile loop with 1,919 ft of elevation gain. Expect steep climbs, rocky sections, beautiful Hudson Valley views, and plenty of elevation. This is definitely not one of our easy hikes.
Sunday, September 13th at 11:00 AM
🚆 Getting There
We’ll be taking Metro-North from Grand Central to Beacon.
Train itinerary:
* 8:56 AM — Depart Grand Central
* 10:28 AM — Arrive Beacon
* From Beacon Station, we’ll take the Beacon Free Loop (Route G) toward Mount Beacon.
* The bus stops at Route 9D & Howland Avenue (Mount Beacon), putting us right in the Mount Beacon area.
* The current Sunday schedule has buses running throughout the day, generally around every 25–30 minutes.
So you do NOT need to walk the ~40 minutes from the train station to the trailhead. We’ll use the local bus to cut that out. The Mount Beacon stop is specifically listed on the current Route G schedule.
🥾 The Hike
6.2 miles
1,919 ft elevation gain
Loop
Hard
We’ll be climbing Mount Beacon and continuing through the Casino, Wilkinson Memorial and Fishkill Ridge trails. Expect a legitimate workout with steep sections and sustained elevation, but the views are absolutely worth it.
And for everyone signed up for Mount Marcy — this is a GREAT opportunity to test yourself beforehand. If you’re planning on joining us for the 14.6-mile, 3,500+ ft Mount Marcy hike, this is a good chance to see how your legs handle a serious climb.
Please don’t sign up for this one if you haven’t done a hard hike before or aren’t comfortable with significant elevation gain. We want everyone to have a great time, but this one is genuinely challenging.
After the hike, we’ll head back toward Beacon where we can grab some food/drinks and hang out before taking Metro-North back to NYC.
Come ready for a workout, great views, and another day out of the city.
Bring plenty of water, snacks, proper hiking shoes, and be prepared for a challenging hike.
