Rachel is confident, independent, and flirty - to the embarrassment of her teenage daughter who is obsessed with the piety of nuns and Catholicism - despite being Jewish. This piousness gets challenged when she lays eyes on the town’s local mysterious bachelor Joe (played by Michael Schoeffling - known for his character “Jake Ryan” in Sixteen Candles!). This film has heart - with witty jokes and one-liners - and the pain and hurt when both a daughter and mother think they know what is best for the other.
