Hudson Valley Regenerative Housing (HV/RH) is a new community of practice bringing together housing affordability activists, natural builders, community weavers, and those interested in shared ownership models. As our first intro mixer in Kingston in October drew a packed and enthusiastic crowd, we’re excited to invite you to our second quarterly gathering. In October, we connected around practical pathways to build or retrofit more homes to address the Mid-Hudson Valley's acute shortage. Specifically, we explored the intersection of (a) homes built using natural, bio-based materials, (b) affordability via shared ownership and/or community land tenure models, and (c) design to foster connection, well-being, and abundant living. This meetup presents us with a special opportunity to tour the Sangha House retreat center at Spring Wind Farm, a recently-designed and built structure using panelized straw. The tour will be guided by project architect Kevin Baxter, Peter Jensen of Build With Nature, and an on-site community resident. 1-2: Building tour: panelized straw communal residence and gathering space 2-4: Meetup and breakout sessions (growing regional supply, pooling housing demand) - Meet one another and share interests - Exchange ideas on cooperative housing and ecological building - Identify areas for practical collaboration to realize transitional infrastructure and begin to realize the potential of regenerative approaches to housing If you’ve been working to realize collective visions around co-housing or ecological building, or are passionate about advancing more connected ways of dwelling in the Hudson Valley—join us. No matter where we're starting from, we each have something to offer. Let’s get acquainted, get inspired, and get organized. Light refreshments will be provided. Practical notes: - So as to lessen parking on the farm property, friendly carpooling is encouraged where possible! - A backup date of Saturday 1/24 will be held in the event of inclement winter weather.
