Why: I was born
My time has come, my 30th birthday draws near. I’ve never really been one to make a thing out of my birthday but this time we’re going to celebrate.
I’m lucky to have friends at all, let alone such a diverse and amazing bunch. The privilege isn’t lost on me. My problem is, if I’m going to drag you all out for a birthday party then I feel an immense pressure to make it worth it! So, I’ve put together a party that’s got a little something for everybody, at least everybody I’ve thought to invite. Simply put - booze, music, and video games. What’s not to like?
I’m picky about bars, not normally my thing. So believe me when I say that we have an AMAZING bar all to ourselves for the night. From 6pm - 2am we’ll be enjoying The Semi-Tropic in Echo Park. The food and drinks there are fantastic, so come hungry and thirsty. Best of all, the bar is equipped with absurdly hi-fi, custom speakers which will be put to work all night by a handpicked selection of formidable DJs:

Finally, the games. We’ll be playing 8-player Halo 3 on LAN and Super Smash Bros Melee on a CRT (of course). I’m still figuring out what else I want to fill in the blanks, so if you have a burning passion or a bright idea feel free to reach out.
I have exactly ONE requirement for all my guests - RSVP. There will be somebody checking the list at the door and you simply won’t be let in if you haven’t RSVP’d. You’re already here, the button is so close to your thumb. Press the button!

I live in [City Far From LA] am I really expected to travel for this?
- I’m not expecting or pressuring excessive travel for this. I’ve invited friends from all over in case it happens to line up with West Coast travels or for the few who might want to make the trip
Gifts?
- No. Actually. The only gift I need is your presence
Is there a ticket I have to buy?
- No, it’s free with RSVP. You will not get in without RSVP. Food and drinks at the bar will cost money. My deal with the bar is based on our party’s tab
What kind of music?
- Dance music! Expect house. Beyond that, I don’t know. I trust our DJs and so should you!
What video games?
- 8-player Halo 3 LAN. Super Smash Bros Melee. More TBD
Do I need to RSVP to get in?
- YES!! There will be a person at the door to check the list. If you and your party aren’t RSVP’d or covered by a +1 then somebody isn’t getting in!
Will there be food?
- Yes! The bar has excellent drinks and an awesome new Mediterranean-ish menu. You can find the menu on their website https://thesemitropic.com/
Is it an open bar?
- No, sorry
Parking?
- Not really. Very limited street parking so please plan on ubering or carpooling with a designated driver if you have to drive.
Is there an after party?
- Maybe. Not sure yet. This is the main event so please don’t base your RSVP on the prospect of afters
Can I bring people if they weren’t invited?
- Yes but please use your best judgement and don’t over promise. The venue has limited capacity and if RSVPs fill up I will have to start rescinding +1s
Can I come to the party if I wasn’t invited?
- Probably! Ask somebody
Can I come to the party if I’m racist, homophobic, transphobic, other kinds of phobic, or generally suck?
