babename Album Release w/ Dog Mom & Nance Castro

You are invited to join us for babename's debut album release show at the Mountain Room! Three great acts (babename, Dog Mom, and Nance Castro) -- bringing a mix of bedroom pop, indie rock, and folk vibes, beautiful harmonies, and heartfelt lyrics -- are coming together to celebrate the release of babename's debut album! Tickets are $12 in advance / $15 at the door. Music starts at 8pm, doors open at 7. This show will be a fundraiser for the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network, and we'll be raffling off some incredible prizes (a free guitar, pole dance classes, massage and spa pass, Hot Rat Summer art, hair cuts and colors (to celebrate the release of "Highlights"), and much more!), so please come out (with cash or Venmo) to support the raffle. babename's album will be there in CD and vinyl, and we'll be performing it for the first time ever cover-to-cover. Come celebrate with us! And please share with/invite friends -- the more the merrier, and we want to pack the house for this special night :) More about babename's release: At the intersection of indie rock, dreamy pop, and jangly folk one finds the fearlessly vulnerable world of babename. Jamie Averley writes from the heart -- specifically the heart of a pandemic-times-baby-queer stumbling their way into a life worth living. Mildly awkward and painfully sincere, babename looks at the world through reborn eyes. With gentle wit and melody, their journal-esque overshares bring us into journey through fantasies of new beginnings, sapphic yearning, and musings on identity, power, and possibility. For as long as they can remember, music has been the way Jamie Averley makes sense of the world. Songwriting offers both a window into someone’s thoughts and an emotional outlet in a way no other form of writing can. During a period of solitude and self-reckoning, music became even more intertwined with identity. Coming into their trans identity offered inspiration and liberation. Highlights is a time capsule of transformation. A collection of songs about queerness, self-discovery, loss, and the courage to return to oneself. Still early in their career, Averley approaches their art with gratitude and curiosity. Each deeper step - writing, recording, performing - has returned meaning tenfold. “My voice, even as it wavers, has something to say” says Averley. “These songs have given me clarity and self-knowledge. I only hope they can do the same for someone else.” More about Dog Mom: Dog Mom is the pnw alt-folk band of Carrie Phillips and Kelsey Szefler. The pair weaves raw edged lyricism with wistful harmonies and guitar arrangements in their exploration of transitions, connection, and queer humanity. They shape-shift with delight from folk duo to rockin’ full band, carrying inspiration from the sounds of Big Thief, Great Grandpa, Haley Heynderickx, & CSNY. Dog Mom is proud to have played iconic Seattle stages, spanning Sunset, Tractor Tavern, the Royal Room, Folklife Festival and more. Their releases have garnered praise and plays from KEXP, with listeners across the globe. More about Nance Castro: nance castro (fka nance! fka chiku nance) is a chamoru musician, educator, comedian, fiber artist, wedding officiant and web/it consultant residing in seattle. specializing in music and comedy, their work expresses the curiosities that happen at the intersection of pasifika identity, queerness, and mental illness. you can hear bedroom pop, jazz and country influences in their music. they find particular enjoyment in making an audience feel; whether it be crying over a love song or chuckling over a joke. as a lifelong learner, they are always expanding their practice and adventuring into new mediums. they are a proud member of the band rodeo coven and the art collective guma’ gela’
