A gathering around the songs that raised me — Tamil and Hindi film music, classical pieces, cinematic moments that live in my body. We’ll watch the song scenes, feel the feelings, and actually talk about what we’re hearing: the craft, the context, the politics, the poetry.
This is how I love, how I show up, how I find joy, how I make art. Get to know me and share parts of you! Bring friends, invite folks.
🎤 Why this, why now
I can never fully lose myself at karaoke here — the songs just aren’t the ones I grew up with. But queue anything from Tamil or Hindi cinema, or a classical piece, and it’s a whole other vibe. My whole body knows it. This is an attempt to recreate that feeling, together, with you all.
🌍 What we’ll actually do
• Watch songs with their original scenes.
• Dissect the music — philosophy, meaning, cultural context
• Call out the biases, celebrate what’s beautiful, hold both
• Learn the words. Attempt the moves. No judgment.
• For the first session, we’ll start with pieces from Lagaan and Roja.
🎤 Your turn
Everyone who RSVPs gets to submit songs — something that hits the same way for you. A piece of music that tells us who you are. We will compile a playlist. We will all share and listen to the songs together.
The only rule: it has to mean something to you.
📍 The logistics (very chill)
Venue and date TBD based on headcount — we’ll find something that works. This will be a recurring event. And honestly, worst case? It’s me, a screen, these songs, and a musical time at my place.
