Step into a world where vision meets reality, and where the lens is both a window and a barrier. In Open Your Eyes, artist Lasher delves into the complex pleasures of the visual world and the subtle limitations of photography. Through a series of abstractions, portraits, and landscapes, Lasher invites you to challenge your perception of what’s real and what’s hidden.
Every image you see is captured on film, with no manipulation, no Photoshop just the raw truth of the moment. But does photography, in its brevity capturing a single frame in the blink of an eye ever truly reveal the full depth of a subject? Is it possible that a fleeting snapshot, just 1/8th of a second, obscures the many selves of a person, or the layers of a landscape?
Lasher is an attorney specializing in death penalty cases and is based in Nevada and California. He has been shooting film since a pre-teen, starting on a 110 camera, then moving to 35 millimeter, now shooting large format. At Berkeley, he studied philosophy and went down the rabbit hole of epistemology. He emerged with his camera to reconnect with the “real” world. He now seeks solace from the trauma of his cases by lugging 50 pounds of gear onto a Superfund site or Fremont Street at night, chasing another reality.
