Join a Bio Foundation Model happy hour! Aside from the Gordian team and our co-tenants Character Bio and Deep Origin, there will be scientists working on biotechnology and age-related disease, a variety of other biotech startups, friends and advisors to Gordian, investors, and other curious minds. Guests of yours are always welcome!
As usual, we have invited a rising star to present some recent scientific work of theirs. This event will feature Christina Theodoris, assistant professor at Gladstone Institutes. Christina has been developing computational approaches to understanding biology from single cell transcriptomes, most recently with GeneFormer (paper in link). This transformer model has been trained on the vast corpus of public human single cell data, and allows transfer learning of the genomic relationships evident therein, to improve performance in a range of computional biology tasks. Such models are eminently relevant because our ability to generate large genomic datasets has exploded in the last decade, but tools to discern functional and causal biological relationships from that data are far from mature.
The happy hour begins Wednesday September 13th at 18:00, with talk from ~18:30 - 19:00. Our address is 486 Cabot Rd in South San Francisco. Food and beer/wine provided.
We hope to see you here!
