Gritty and compelling in equal measure, CJ Stranger is a guitar-slinging, story-driven songwriter based on Dharug Country in the Blue Mountains. Drawing breath into old Australian folk traditions, CJ crafts songs with polite yet piercing lyricism that linger long after the final note. Known for his experimental approach to guitar and unmistakable sound, CJ has become an in-demand session player, valued for both technical skill and originality. His latest release, Folk Songs for End Times (Dashville Community Records), paints a dystopian Australian landscape while urging listeners not to throw hope away.
Creating on Wangal land in Sydney, Gailla writes intimate folk songs that explore climate change, corruption, activism, and community. Like a warm yet empowering lullaby, Gailla's ethereal voice and her gentle guitar strumming detail the Parramatta River, volcanoes, Sydney park, community, hope and despair, and proclaims a message of the resilience found through music. Following the release of their EP ‘Over the Earth, Under’, the track “Running on Our Own” was nominated for the 2025 Environmental Music Prize, and the project was featured at the renowned Woodford Folk Festival.
Together, these two artists meet the weight of our times head-on. Their songs hold the complexities of living through crisis, fear, grief and anger, while offering something harder earned: a grounded, defiant hope. This is a night of powerful, deeply felt folk music you won’t want to miss.
