Join Wonzimer gallery on November 20th for an evening of varied performance and installation, presented during the exhibition "Ode To Sunflower," featuring new works by artist Joshua AM Ross and designer Caleb Engstrom. The event runs from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM 341 S Avenue 17, Los Angeles, CA 90031. The featured event is the puppet performance, Ripe Fruit, Bruised Fruit by William PK Carter. The piece illustrates the self-destructive cycle of internalized homophobia and shame and how it informs one's love life, all from the perspective of an overly-preening bird that slowly turns into its own predator. The night will also include a live music set by the group Pour Deux. Complementing the evening's events will be a cello performance by XOWOMO from Sade Gallery. Parked directly in front of the gallery will be The Freak Family Roadshow, a traveling sculptural art installation. Housed in a fully-restored 1950s canned-ham-style trailer, the installation features a family unit, a gorilla mother, an alien father, and their strange hybrid baby trapped in an eternal time loop. Outside, a lurid sideshow banner and an animatronic paper-mâché carnival barker promise an experience that "will make you grateful for your normal life.” Inside the vintage trailer, the scene is domestic and tender, complete with family photos, toys, tchotchkes, and 1950s music playing over the radio.
