Join us for the second night of the Spring 2026 Bronx Frame Screening Series with a special evening of short films curated by Queens World Film Festival.
Admission is free and open to the public. RSVP required.

Join Queens World Film Festival and Bronx Frame for this FREE event celebrating indie film. (Mis)Fortune is a curated bloc of six short films from the past 16 years of the Queens World Film Festival. These films represent some of Artistic Director Donald Preston Cato’s favorites from over 2000 films he has selected to screen at the festival.
Each film explores the space between what we hope for and what actually unfolds. Together, they remind us that not everything goes as planned. The selection of films goes all the way back to the 2013 edition of the festival.
About the Screening
This dynamic program brings together seven short films from around the world, including works from the Bronx, Brooklyn, California, Spain, China, and Portland, Oregon. The bloc includes narrative, documentary, and one irreverent animated film, offering a range of styles and perspectives.
As with all Queens World screenings, the films are grouped thematically to spark conversation across stories, genres, and lived experiences. There will be an artist talk back after the screening with the Queens World Film Festival Artistic Director Donald Preston Cato and the attending filmmakers.
About the Films
The Vacation by Jarreau Carillio from Brooklyn is a 9 minute narrative short that was in the 2022 Festival. It takes place in Flatbush, where four friends are stuck in their car after it breaks down on the way to the beach on the last day of the summer.
Pain Staking by Adolfo Martinez Perez from California and Spain is an 11 minute short that was in the 2013 Festival. The story takes place in a garage during a beautiful, sunny day. Everything is wonderful until the best friend with a request from hell shows up.
Sauerdogs by Guillermo de Oliveira from Spain is a 15 minute short narrative that was in the 2022 Festival. The film is about Bill and Hans, two unlucky prospectors and a battered dog sled, just trying to make it home.
Caregiver by Rafael De Leon, Jr. from The Bronx. (2022 Festival) is a 5 minute narrative short about a graduate student who interviews a young volunteer caregiver for his class project, but something juuuuust isn’t quite right.
Con Fuerza by Andrés Eduardo and Alejandro Mercado from Los ANglees and Spain is a 9 minute animated short in the historic 2020 festival. A young Venezuelan refugee woman living in Colombia struggles through the pain of leaving home with the help of some local folk characters.
Sixteen Thousand Dollars by Simone Baptiste from Los Angeles, (2020 Festival) is a 17 minute narrative short film that imagines a world in which a struggling black college grad wakes up to find that reparations have finally been paid to descendants of slaves in America. With this new found capital, he will decide how best to spend his reparations, totaling a mere $16,000. Receiving reparations opens up old wounds of slavery, Jim Crow, and systemic oppression that he must evaluate on his journey.
