'Paseo with Playwrights': East Bay Walk and Picnic

Join us for "Paseo with Playwrights: An East Bay Walk and Picnic" on Sunday June 14, 2026, 2-5pm. The event is FREE but we encourage donations at the link above to help us raise $30,000 for the festival in September. Leading up to the Bay Area Playwrights Festival in September, the Playwrights Foundation is hosting a series of community events to bring us all together to build & strengthen community and bring to life our theme for this year’s Festival: REVIVE - RESIST - RENEW! Share a walk and a BYO picnic in Joaquin Miller Park while learning more about Playwrights Foundation from staff, board, and playwrights. The beautiful setting of Joaquin Miller park will allow us to REVIVE ourselves in fresh air and natural surroundings, RESIST oppression by supporting a park that recently returned 5 acres of land to permanent Indigenous control, and RENEW community connections and strengthen support for writers and the creation of new work. Please RSVP for the exact number in your party who will be attending, and let us know if you will have dogs or small children in your party. The Details: WHEN: We will be gathering at 2pm at the picnic area, and the hike will begin around 2:30pm. However, folks will be onsite in the picnic area and you are welcome to join anytime between 2-5 pm. Folks have the option to stay at the picnic site and not join the walk, if desired. WHERE: Find us at the picnic area in Joaquin Miller park just past the playground at the base of the waterfall. Use the entrance at Sanborn Drive near the Joaquin Miller Playground. There is street parking along Joaquin Miller Road, but if you would like to use public transit, the 31 bus stops right in front, and connects to BART! THE WALK: The walk  is approximately 1.25 miles and will have stairs & elevation changes. While mostly paved, occasional parts will be on dirt paths. Our picnic area is about 1000 yards (unpaved) from the street with a mild elevation change. PICNIC: Bring your own picnic and/or something to share - we'll have picnic tables, shade, extra cooler space, and friendly faces! A Playwrights Foundation representative will stay on site as we walk. There are grills on site, if you would like to bring and wrangle some charcoal. KIDS & PETS: Kids and (friendly & leashed) dogs are welcome! Dog owners, beware that it is foxtail season and there are some located along the path - be mindful of your pup's ears and snout! We look forward to seeing you there!
