-‿-WHO WE ARE:
Mother Angela's Foundation works with folks stuck in the health-SES feedback loop, in which chronic health issues and chronic poverty become inextricably linked.
WHY YOU SHOULD COME:
This Happy Hour is raising money for 2 main causes:
1. Expanding Harm Reduction & Food/Water Distribution in our SUS (Shelter & Unhoused Support) Program
Mother Angela's is already a distributor of naloxone, which we pass out in addition to food, water, condoms and other various supplies to our neighbors living on the street, sex workers, and sometimes in shelters. We're looking to expand this program to include other necessities like toiletries, raincoats/tarps and reusable water bottles; as well as widen the harm reduction aspect to include needle-exchange, sharps disposal, fentanyl test strips, safer-use education, etc.
Much of harm reduction involves fostering trust with our neighbors who are traumatized and/or use drugs so they feel safer engaging with us and taking advantage of local resources. Providing them with the tools to stay alive and safe while we create this trust shows them we value and have love for them (and their human rights to life and a full belly) regardless of their current circumstances.
2. Printing & Distribution of Resource Pamphlets
At Mother Angela's we often talk about Home, Health & Healing-- the building blocks of sustainable wellbeing. The Resource Pamphlets are hard-copy, tri-fold lists of local services divided into the 3 "H" sections for easy navigation.* In New Orleans, our other home, we've already distributed several thousand pamphlets in community centers, schools, churches, shelters and on the street. This fundraiser is meant to help us print the SF Pamphlets, currently in production, so we can begin distribution locally as soon as possible.

AS LONG AS WE GET 30 PEOPLE TO SHOW UP-- El Rio will give Mother Angela's Foundation 30% of the Happy Hour proceeds. (We know: they rock.) So, naturally, we want as many people as possible to come and have some drinks with us !
We'll also be doing a quick thank you & narcan demonstration at 6 or 6:30pm-- the more people that know how to respond to an overdose, the better.
IMPORTANT: Look for the sign-in sheet when you arrive to let El Rio know you're there for Mother Angela's
