Neighborhood: Arts District
On view: collection highlights and exhibitions of the work of artist, educator, and social justice advocate Corita Kent (1918-1986), including heroes + sheroes, a series of 29 prints created between 1968 and 1969. These powerful works combine newspaper and magazine images with poetry, song lyrics, and quotations that address issues such as civil rights, labor and anti-war movements, nuclear disarmament, and the political assassinations that defined the 1960s.
Recently relocated to Los Angeles’ Arts District, Corita Art Center is the largest and most comprehensive collection of works by iconic artist Corita Kent. Comprised of Corita’s artwork, photographs, and ephemera, the collection holds singular materials that visitors won’t see anywhere else.
