Gregg Fleishman: ANTIDOTE at Sky Portal X Four Decades of Geometric Innovation Across Architecture, Sculpture, and Functional Design Opening Reception for the Artist LA Climate Week Thursday, April 9, 2026 6:00pm - 9:00pm LOS ANGELES, CA — Architect and designer Gregg Fleishman presents ANTIDOTE, an exhibition of functional art, collectible design, and large-scale geometric installations opening April 9, 2026 at Sky Portal X in Downtown Los Angeles. Special thanks to guest curator JOJO ABOT for her help with this presentation! The exhibition introduces Fleishman’s structural research to a new generation of collectors and architects while highlighting the continued evolution of a practice developed through more than four decades of experimentation with geometry and inhabitable form. Presented during Los Angeles Climate Week, the exhibition also highlights the environmental relevance of his modular building systems. ANTIDOTE presents Fleishman’s work within a dialogue spanning architecture, mathematics, sculpture, and furniture design. The exhibition explores how his geometric systems move across scales—from functional furniture to inhabitable structures—revealing new relationships between form, space, and human experience. By activating the gallery as an immersive environment, the installation demonstrates how geometric thinking can translate from object to architecture. “I see ANTIDOTE as a spark—a glimpse into what geometry makes possible,” says Gregg Fleishman. “The chairs are really studies in invention that led to the larger structural work, which took many years to realize. There’s something inherently mysterious about polyhedral geometry, whether through sacred proportion or simply the complexity of understanding space in three dimensions. For me, the goal has always been to create work that is both playful and functional—structures that grow out of a long evolution of methods and that have the potential to change how we experience space and how we live.” At the center of the exhibition are several structural installations that demonstrate Fleishman’s long-term investigation into modular building systems and spatial environments. These works translate decades of experimentation into physical form, revealing how simple geometric principles can generate complex metabolist architectural experiences. Return of the Caterpillar, a sweeping modular structure composed of interlocking geometric segments, explores organic movement through architectural form. The work demonstrates Fleishman’s belief that architecture can behave as a living system—capable of growth, transformation, and adaptation through the intelligent use of repeatable parts. Mayan Tower (Junior), a vertically stacked geometric structure, explores human-scale construction through interlocking modular components. Built from interlocking geometric components, the structure reflects Fleishman’s commitment to building systems that are efficient, transportable, and capable of assembly without complex tools or specialized labor. Octo II, a faceted geometric environment constructed having repeating octagonal elements, demonstrates how structural repetition creates both spatial rhythm and architectural strength. The work demonstrates how repetition and structural clarity can create both visual rhythm and architectural strength, inviting viewers to experience geometry as a spatial condition rather than simply a visual language. Together, these works demonstrate Fleishman’s long-term exploration of modular construction as an alternative to conventional building systems. Alongside these installations, ANTIDOTE presents key sculptural furniture works that form the foundation of Fleishman’s artistic practice. Since the 1970s, Fleishman has approached the chair as a fundamental design challenge—an opportunity to explore structure, balance, and proportion at the human scale before extending those ideas into architecture. Works such as New Wave, Surround Flame, Broadway Lumbarest, Bloom, Nebula, and Sky Rocker demonstrate his signature interlocking “panel puzzle” system, in which precision-cut plywood components assemble without nails, screws, or glue. This approach produces furniture that is both lightweight and structurally resilient, while revealing the logic of its own construction through clean structural expression. Crafted from Baltic and European birch plywood, these works reflect Fleishman’s commitment to material intelligence, engineering clarity, and sculptural refinement. Early recognition—including the acquisition of his furniture by the Museum of Modern Art in New York—established his place within late twentieth-century design. Renewed interest in modular construction has brought fresh attention to the relevance of his early innovations. Fleishman’s work occupies a unique position in his practice within a lineage that redefines the boundaries between art, architecture, and functional design. His integrated approach—moving from furniture to structural environments — demonstrates how design thinking can operate across scale while maintaining a consistent geometric logic. This continuity positions his work within contemporary conversations around flexible architecture, sustainability, and new models for inhabiting space. With ANTIDOTE, Fleishman reenters the design conversation at a moment when architecture is increasingly focused on modular systems, material efficiency, and adaptive living. The exhibition presents a forward-looking body of work that continues to resonate within contemporary design and architectural discourse. As part of Los Angeles Climate Week, Fleishman’s installation at Sky Portal X will be included in the city’s cultural programming exploring sustainable design and adaptive architecture. His modular structures, developed through decades of research into efficiency, reuse, and human-centered construction, will be highlighted during the April 9 opening of ANTIDOTE. The exhibition opens Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 6:00–9:00pm at Sky Portal X in Downtown Los Angeles and will remain on view through Spring 2026, accompanied by public programming and conversations exploring the intersections of design, architecture, and technology. About Gregg Fleishman Gregg Fleishman is a Los Angeles–based architect, designer, and artist whose work explores geometry as both structure and philosophy. A graduate of the USC School of Architecture, he has researched geometric building systems since 1972 and designed furniture since 1975. His work has been exhibited internationally and included in major museum collections, while his structural environments continue to influence conversations around modular architecture and regenerative design. www.greggfleishman.com Instagram: @greggfleishman Instagram: @skyportalx www.SkyPortalX.com Opening Reception Thursday, April 9, 2026 6:00 - 9:00pm Gregg Fleishman @ Sky Portal X 201 S Broadway Los Angeles, CA.
