Magnifica Humanitas: A Community-Wide Conversation Join us for a thoughtful and participatory community discussion centered on Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas. Together, we will explore the questions it raises about human dignity, faith, ethics, emerging technology, and our responsibility to the common good. Facilitated by Sister Theresa Harpin, Executive Director of Restorative Partners, the event will feature three distinguished panelists: Keith Abney — Cal Poly philosophy lecturer, senior fellow of the Ethics + Emerging Sciences Group, and expert in artificial intelligence, robotics, and emerging-technology ethics. Theresa Migler — Associate Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering at Cal Poly, specializing in algorithms, graph theory, computer science education, and equitable international learning opportunities. She also served on the board of the Newman Catholic Center. Daryl Grigsby — Author, speaker, workshop leader, and community activist whose work focuses on Catholic social teaching, synodality, justice, human dignity, and the Black Catholic experience. He is the author of Catholics for the Common Good: An Eternal Offering. Each presentation will be followed by small-group conversation and questions from designated community reflectors, creating space for deeper dialogue between the panelists and those gathered. A final session will bring together the central themes of the day and consider how we might carry them into our communities. Whether you have read the entire encyclical, explored only a portion, or are encountering it for the first time, you are warmly invited to listen, reflect, ask questions, and participate.
