The Mystical Hearth (www.themysticalhearth.com) is a Sunday service for pluralistic explorations of the sacred in community. It is a place to practice reverence without dogma, to re-remember who we are, and to be together in the vastness of whatever we call God, Mystery, Reality, Love. You do not need a specific belief to belong here, or any belief at all. Only a willingness to be honest, present, and open with however the sacred emerges for you and together.
The Hearth is the simplest sacred technology: a living center we tend to together. It belongs to no one, yet it warms everyone.
We tend to this center at each service through different portals:
❤️ co-creation of altar
🧘♂️ guided collective meditation
🗣️ a sacred passage and sermon offered by a teacher from rotating wisdom lineages
📚 45 mins of deep reading of a sacred text of one's choosing (however you define sacred; whether that's a physics or 1,000 year old text)
✨ reading out loud passages or poetry that have moved us during our individual reading time
This weeks guest: Milo North Burn (he/him) is a meditation teacher in the Insight Meditation and Soto Zen traditions with over twenty years of practice, including several cumulative years on silent retreat and time living in monastic communities such as Tassajara and Green Gulch. He has studied with senior teachers including Joseph Goldstein, Greg Scharf, Tenshin Reb Anderson Roshi, and Adyashanti.
Milo is the founder of Boundless Refuge, where he leads meditation retreats, daylongs, and a weekly sitting group based in Berkeley, California. His teaching emphasizes radical welcoming—meeting experience with deep relaxation and discovering the compassion that naturally arises from present-moment awareness.
