What if debate were focused not on one participant defeating the other, but on everyone gaining a more complex view of the topic of debate? The Anti-Debate (https://www.anti-debate.org/) is one answer to that question. It’s a new format for debate where participants build on each other's insights, so that greater complexity can emerge. Despite its name, The Anti-Debate is not anti-debate! It actually starts out like a traditional debate — with opening statements and rebuttals. But then, it goes further — guiding participants to explore how they might integrate their perspectives into a more comprehensive view. For this live Anti-Debate at LightHaven, we’re taking on the thorny issue of artificial intelligence. But we’re transcending simple yes/no framings (speed up or slow down?), and instead opting for a more nuanced approach. Moderating will be game theory expert and Win-Win host Liv Boeree (https://x.com/Liv_Boeree), and participating will be former OpenAI researcher and lead author of the AI2027 forecast Daniel Kokotajlo (https://x.com/DKokotajlo) and Mercatus Center AI policy researcher and lead author of America's AI Action Plan Dean Ball (https://x.com/deanwball). Join us to witness a new debate format in action, and walk away with a more complex view of AI. Doors open at 5:30pm, and programming is from 6-7:30pm.
