Hosted by Old Soul Sanctuary

Farm attire, sturdy shoes, weather appropriate.
For many people, winter is a cruel and miserable season. The Feast of St. Brigid opens the door to a Springtime full of hope, healing and happiness. The 1st of February is an important day in Gaelic culture. In Ireland, it is also known as Imbolc, and marks the beginning of Springtime. The Feast of St. Brigid at Old Soul Sanctuary is a floating event, so come when you can, and please give yourself the gift of at least an hour to soak up the magic of the day. We will be enjoying a leisurely afternoon with sanctuary animals and Spring observances: * Individual / family walks around the Sanctuary, with the intention of seeking out small, delicate signs of spring. * Craft supplies to make a St. Brigid’s cross and other symbolic ornaments, corn dolls and other fun and whimsical Imbolc items. * Light refreshments & hot drinks connected to the hallmarks of St. Brigid. *Donkeys, goats, pigs, bunnies, cats and dogs to visit! A $10 suggested donation will help cover the cost of the event, and the ongoing provision of Old Soul Sanctuary. What actually IS the Feast of St. Brigid and Imbolc? St. Brigid is one of of three Irish saints, and is the patron of poets, healers, and dairymaids. Imbolc is an ancient agricultural fire festival which, over time, was modified and assimilated into the Catholic Church. In the agricultural calendar, although January and February feel dark and cold, the earth is brightening and growing fertile again after the darkness of winter. The Divine aspect of our feminine nature reemerges. My favorite tradition has the women of the house leave strips of cloth and items of clothing outside on St. Brigid's Eve (January 31) preferably on bushes and trees, for the Saint to bless. I lay out the same scarf every year, and it holds a special place on my shelf, so when I wear it I remember the power of Spring’s light. We hope you can join us for this very special day! Hang in there...the sun will rise again!
