40/50 spots left
There is an $8 vehicle entry fee per car, so please carpool to save cash and parking spots!
The state park enforces a strict no pets policy in the picnic areas, so leave your pups at home for this one. Also important for those with allergies!
We recommend wearing form fitting layers (like biker shorts and a tank top) under your clothes! Since we are at outdoor picnic tables, this makes it super easy to try things on right over your outfit.
Hey everyone! We're hosting a clothing swap and hang out in Long Island! I'm trying to bring more thirdish spaces to Nassau where we can just hang out, connect, and look out for one another. Instead of a high fashion exchange, this is a general closet cleanout in partnership with The Mary Brennan Inn.
EVENT DETAILS:
- When: August 8th
- Time: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
- Where: Hempstead Lake State Park (Look for us at the picnic tables near Field 1 or 2!)
Drop Off Time: 11-11:45 AM (This time slot is for those who are donating food for the community table, and/or their clothing to us! Please make sure your items are in bags and food is completely sealed. They do not have to be folded or in boxes but it is greatly appreciated.)
To make a donation/volunteer fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQgqtC38n258ZlpSPRgbDG4zdxSYL7add3vT1bbFgdU-PDbA/viewform?usp=header
HOW IT WORKS:
- Bring a bag of clothes, shoes, or accessories you no longer wear from 11-12 PM. We will lay everything out during drop off times. Grab a drink and hang out while we quickly look over the items to ensure they meet the shelter's ready to wear guidelines.
- Swapping will begin at 12:00-4 PM!
- Everything left over is being packed up and driven directly to local emergency housing networks, The Mary Brennan INN. They distribute clothes straight to local individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Because these items go directly onto the backs of people in crisis, we must follow strict rules.
CLOTHING GUIDELINES:
PLEASE ONLY DONATE READY TO WEAR ITEMS ONLY
- Items must be completely clean and free of stains, tears, missing buttons, or broken zippers. Shelters do not have laundry facilities or staff to fix or wash damaged clothing.
Please only bring items that are gently used or new. If it is too overworn, stained, or stretched for you to hand to a close friend, please do not bring it to the swap.
OTHER IMPORTANT DEETS:
- There is an $8 vehicle entry fee per car, so please carpool to save cash and parking spots!
- The state park enforces a strict no pets policy in the picnic areas, so leave your pups at home for this one. Also important for those with allergies!
- Bring a reusable tote bag with you to take your new clothes home! We will have extras but supply is limited.
Clothing at this event is 100% free! If you'd like to chip in $5 to help cover the cost of tablesheets, snacks, and park fees and help us fund future community events you can do so via Zelle: inkloregraphicsandapparel@gmail.com or drop a dollar in our tip jars at our tables. Thank you! :)
Clear your closet. Support Nassau County shelters and meet some of your neighbors!
