Historians believe there were around 180,000 Rock & Roll bands in the US between 1964 and 1968, lead by a teenage love affair with the newly mass marketed electric guitar.
The music was all about the vibe, the dance beat with 3 to 4 chords strummed over top on repeat. Get a couple buddies together, and you’ve got a party - don’t do it in the house or pops’ll lose it though - the garage band is born.
Each song followed structure like we know now, verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus… but somewhere in all of that you wanna make sure there is an accent, a break from the vocal lines where the band would rave up to make the dance floor go wild.
Vinyl collectors from this era covet the rare recordings, limited pressings from groups that never made it big and thus digital copies are none to be found. That 60s Drum, Guitar, Bass, Vocal, Rock & Roll dance music, is increasingly referred to as Garage Rave.
