An AFROHOUSE JOURNEY COMES TO CLAPHAM COMMON The UK Afrohouse DJ and producer Mr Silk will curate the soundtrack from afternoon into evening, using an extended set to explore the depth, history and evolution of the music. London, September 2026 On Sunday 20 September 2026, UK Afrohouse DJ and producer Mr Silk brings MR SILK IN THE PARK … AN AFROHOUSE JOURNEY to Clapham Common for an open air session running from 3PM to 9PM. The premise is deliberately uncomplicated: one DJ, one extended set and enough time for the music to develop. At a point when Afrohouse has moved from specialist scenes into clubs and festivals around the world, Mr Silk is interested in what can sometimes get lost in that acceleration: the music, producers, regional movements and musical ideas that helped shape the sound before its current international prominence. Rather than treating the event as a succession of peak time moments, he intends to use the afternoon and evening to move gradually through different periods, moods and strands of Afrohouse, from deeper and more foundational selections to contemporary African electronic music. “There is much more to Afrohouse than the music people are hearing at the moment,” says Mr Silk. “There are different generations, different scenes and a lot of music that helped us arrive where we are now. Having time allows me to make those connections properly.” The extended format is central to the idea. Instead of compressing a performance into a conventional club set, Mr Silk will have the freedom to change pace, explore less obvious music and allow the atmosphere to shift naturally as daylight gives way to evening. For an artist whose work has moved between DJing, production, broadcasting and music curation, it is also an opportunity to bring those different disciplines together. Mr Silk is a UK Afrohouse DJ and producer whose career spans performance, production, broadcasting and music curation, with African electronic music at the heart of his work. His career has taken him across the UK and internationally, while his broadcasting and curatorial work has consistently focused on introducing audiences to Afrohouse and the wider spectrum of African electronic music. “When you are given an hour, there are decisions you have to make immediately,” he says. “With an extended set, you can let the music breathe. You can go somewhere unexpected, come back, change the energy and tell a much more complete story.” Clapham Common provides a deliberately informal setting for that idea. There is no large festival lineup and no attempt to recreate a nightclub outdoors. Instead, guests are invited to bring their own food and drinks, meet friends and spend the afternoon listening, dancing and discovering music as the session unfolds. MR SILK IN THE PARK is less concerned with spectacle than with selection. For one afternoon and evening, the focus remains on the relationship between a DJ, the music and the people listening.
