Should We Lose Faith to Save Democracy? An Atheist and Christian Discuss the Good the Bad and the Ugly of Religion RSVP by Oct 7th so we can make our food order. After we max out on the number of meals we can provide, we might be able to still let people in, just without dinner. Religion has been at the heart of some of America’s greatest movements—and some of its deepest divisions. It has advocated for justice and compassion, while also being entangled with exclusion, conflict, and fear-based politics. What, then, do we make of religion’s complicated legacy? Join atheist journalist Jonathan Rauch (Brookings Institute) and Christian historian Molly Worthen (UNC-Chapel Hill) as they unpack how religion, in particular Christianity, unexpectedly challenged their assumptions about democracy and meaning, and how we move forward in divided times.
