DUKE’S POTS

Hosted by Marta Los Angeles

Neighborhood: Silverlake / Los Feliz Join us at the gallery within MOS Architects' Greenhouse No. 4 for DUKE'S POTS, a one-day-only Ceramic Sale, Temporal Exhibition, and Living Homage to the rare-plant grower and dealer Duke Benadom, who will sundown his own Simi Valley growing operation later this Fall. Presented in close collaboration with Yunice Kang of SANSO Los Angeles, DUKE'S POTS makes available 300+ pots-for-plants from the master-grower's 40+ year collection. Ranging in diameter from 3–16 inches, these functional pottery specimens present a snapshot of a diverse swath of California Clay studio practices over the past four decades. The procedural yet serendipitous retelling of the tale goes like this: Marta seeks out a selection of special plants for its forthcoming exhibition with MOS Architects; Marta is introduced to the legendary Duke and his wife Kaz by friend and colleague Darren Romanelli; Duke generously provides some of his signature Operculicarya Decaryi (Elephant Tree, or Jabily) for the exhibition; as the Los Angeles Design Weekend approaches, Marta liaises with long-time friend Yunice Kang for a potential plant-oriented collaboration; Yunice tells us of a collection of pots she was recently tasked with re-homing; we discover the pots belong to none other than Duke himself. DUKE'S POTS is born. See you there! Cash or card. First-come, first-served. Beverages, etc. Who: Marta, Sanso, and Duke What: DUKE'S POTS When: Saturday, September 27, 2–5PM Where: Marta, 3021 Rowena Avenue, 90039
