Павел "Паша" - бывший учитель начальных классов из России. После начала войны с Украиной он работает школьным видеографом и с болью наблюдает, как меняется его школа и вся страна. В своём фильме он показывает, как появляются военизированные детские отряды, усиливаются репрессивные законы, растёт агрессивный национализм и как выпускников вербуют на войну. Когда Паша понимает, что ему самому грозит опасность, он решается на рискованный побег из России. Просмотр и обсужление пройдут на русском и английском языках - будет переводчик. As part of the 10th anniversary of Brighton Beach Pride (May 31, 2026), Qaravan is honored to host Oscar 2026-winning director Pavel Talankin. Pavel “Pasha” is a former elementary school teacher from Russia. After the war in Ukraine began, he took a job as a school videographer and found himself witnessing, with growing alarm, how his school - and the country around him - was changing. In his film, he documents the rise of militarized youth groups, the tightening of repressive laws, the spread of aggressive nationalism, and the recruitment of students into the war. When Pasha realizes that his own safety is at risk, he is forced to plan a dangerous escape from Russia. The screening and discussion will be held in both Russian and English, with interpretation provided. The event is free (please RSVP). Come yourself and bring friends - this is a rare chance to see today’s Russia through the eyes of a teacher living through it.
