Our attention is the most valuable thing that we have (there’s a whole market around capturing our attention!) So lets reclaim our attention!
I originally heard of this idea of group attention expansion on a session from The Waking Up App (not sponsored but holy shit it’s taught me a lot about meditation & the power of mindfulness).
Basically here’s the pitch
We will decide on a museum (I’m thinking one that’s free for residents on Saturdays aka De Young or Legion of Honor)
Then we shall decide on 5 pieces total to stare at for about 7-10 minutes each! (Summing up to about a 50 minute meditation practice.)
The goal here is to practically body double and sit with the artwork without distractions from the phone, conversation or body language communication.
Noticing what is coming up without reaction or judgement.
Once the 50 minutes are completed we will then go outside and share discussion on what we experienced. Examples could be “I noticed the urge to pull out my phone quickly” or “I felt myself being somewhere else” really anything that’s unique to your experience. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY OF DOING THIS!
So yeah!! I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to redefine “Social Media”.
We gather, we look at mediums and we chat about what came up for us! Except it’s IRL 😉
Let me know if you’re interested and have any questions!
