In the stunning cathedral of St. Jean Baptiste, Yuval Medina, Marco Catella, and Joshua DeLozier present "From The Beloved Permessus", the inaugural concert of their new collective, Ex Corde.
Doors open at 7:00p, concert starts at 7:30p.
In the program is some of the most awe-inspiring organ music ever written—Messiaen’s "Apparition de l’Église éternelle"—music from Monteverdi’s "L’Orfeo", and newly commissioned works for string quartet, brass quintet, and voice.
Our inaugural concert centers on the human voice. Across the centuries, the voice has been the thread unifying great composers: whether writing for instrumentalists or vocalists, the greatest composers conceived of the instrument as an extension of the human body. And at the origin of that idea—of breath, line, and expression—is the human voice itself.
This program guides the listener from the most embodied, vocal music, starting with Monteverdi, to the most disembodied and celestial—culminating in Messiaen’s "Apparition".
