Tucson Thrive w/ Elena Chabolla (Free & Virtual)

Elena Chabolla believes that every person has a right to the space they hold and the air they breathe. This belief guides her work and her way of seeing the world, helping her connect with people from many walks of life. Born in California, Elena spent much of her childhood in Mexico. She grew up in the lakeside town of Jocotepec and later in Puerto Vallarta, where she studied folkloric dance, oratory, theater, sewing, and cooking. These years shaped her love of Mexican culture and made her fully bilingual in Spanish and English. At age 14, she returned to Southern California to finish high school, later earning an associate’s degree. When her family moved to Tucson, Elena completed a Journalism degree at the University of Arizona. She went on to spend 18 years as a reporter and editor in Michigan, Ohio, and Arizona. In 2005, Elena shifted into new roles as a news editing instructor and a medical interpreter. She joined the University of Arizona in 2012, steadily growing her career from Program Coordinator to Program Manager, and today she serves as Associate Director of Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs. Elena treasures her family above all. Her husband, John, and their two daughters, Brenna and Danae, are her greatest pride and joy.
