Jonathan Cross – Sculptures "In the Window"
Merchant Modern is pleased to invite Jonathan Cross as our newest artist-in-residence, launching with a special window installation for LA Design Weekend: Sculptures "In The Window". Known for his brutalist forms and architectural sensibility, Cross creates hand-carved clay sculptures, each wood-fired in the High Desert, California. Raw, grounded, and intentional, his work transforms our Atwater Village storefront into a study of material, weight, and space.
✨ We invite you to visit the window and explore the store, featuring a curated selection of Los Angeles–based artists alongside unique vintage sculptures and midcentury modern design. Join us to celebrate the launch of Cross’s residency, explore the shop, and enjoy a drink during the weekend festivities.
About Merchant Modern:
Merchant Modern is owned by mother–daughter duo Sara Marlowe Hall and Denise Portmans, who for over a decade have been designing spaces, showcasing artists, with vintage objects and midcentury modern furniture. Their Atwater Village shop is one of two Merchant Modern locations, offering a unique space where art and design meet — imagined for your home.
