Welcome to the 6th monthly Open Mic with A Room of One's Own at The Frugal Frigate bookstore ❤️
Stories connect us. They serve as medicine and wisdom and help us navigate through times of despair and isolation. And in a climate that would rather we stay divided and fuel that despair for the benefit of those in power, we need stories more than ever to remind us of what really matters.
🗓️ APRIL’S THEME
April’s theme is: Walking in the Shadows. As a response to April’s “Grief in Public” day, the invitation this month is to share a story of something you’ve kept in the shadows—perhaps out of fear, shame, or maybe, you let the prompt lead you somewhere unexpected (like talking about that weird gift your grandmother left you in her will but that you haven’t taken out of the attic in years). You may also choose to make a “grief display” and share it with us.
-
Participants will have up to 5 minutes to share a story and are welcome to read a prepared piece or just speak unscripted - the time limit remains the same regardless of format. Readers are limited to about 11 slots, so sign up as soon as you can to secure a spot (which you can do while RSVPing for this event).
This event is for those 18 and up. We ask that no photos or videos be taken of anyone sharing a story without their permission and to practice deep listening and presence while attending this event.
